ASIC’s are key elements for the development of innovative products, with high IP
protection. ASIC does also allow low energy and high performance solutions at
competitive cost even at medium size production. We will describe the different
chain elements and options available to develop ASIC’s. Different MPW programs
exist since the beginning of the 80’s. We will detail Europractice as one of these
programs and headed by imec. Since 2013 imec offers a limited free ASIC
prototyping program for Brazilian universities on 180nm TSMC technology.
